Virginia sports betting handle increases in August

US.- The Virginia Lottery has released its report on sports wagering activity for August. The sports betting handle was $510.1m. That’s a rise of 22.4 per cent year-over-year.

Mobile wagers totalled $506.2m and retail bets $3.9m. Adjusted gross revenue (AGR) was $58.3m. Bettors won $447.2m, which meant a combined 12.33 per cent operator win percentage. Of the fourteen mobile operators and three casinos, ten posted net positive AGR, leading to $8.7m in tax payments.

AGR is taxed at 15 per cent, with 97.5 per cent to be deposited in the state’s General Fund and 2.5 per cent for the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund administered by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

In August, gaming revenue at Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia totalled $84.8m, up 34.3 per cent year-over-year and 0,1 per cent from July 2025. Slots generated $65.5m and table games $19.2m.

Caesars Virginia reported $34.5m in adjusted gross gaming revenue (AGR), with $26.6m from slot machines and $8m from table games. Rivers Casino Portsmouth’s AGR was $28m, with $20.4m from slots and $7.6m from table games, and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol posted $22.3m, $18.6m from slot machines and $3.7m from table games.
