Victoria could ban gaming advertising
Victorian authorities are evaluating a general crackdown on gaming industry’s advertisements.
Australia.- The Australian State of Victoria has announced a general crackdown on the gaming industry, aiming at limiting companies’ advertisements near children and teenagers. According to local press, gaming advertisement would be prohibited on public spaces, such as roads, public transport, and within 150 metres of schools.
“Victoria is leading the way on this issue, and it’s time for the Turnbull Government to act further on broadcast ads – to reduce the impact of betting advertising on sports fans,” Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Marlene Kairouz, commented. “Kids should be able to go to school and get home without being bombarded by betting advertising – that’s what these changes are all about.”
According to Kairouz, the measure was proposed by local residents, who insisted on limiting gaming advertisements to prevent gambling problem and restrict children and teenager’s participation in any form of gaming. The Gambling Regulation Amendment Bill 2017 of Victoria State would apply to all static betting advertising, including the outdoor billboards.
“The state government also intends to amend the Gambling Regulation Act 2003,” revealed the official report. “Proposed changes would enable the minister to ban or restrict companies that enable people to bet on the outcome of lotteries in Australia and abroad.”
