UK lawmakers push for vote on FOBTs delay

A group of officials against the delay wants to force a vote on the bill that delayed the implementation of new regulations.

UK.- The delay in the implementation of new regulations that are set to decrease the maximum stake on fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs) is causing a revolt in the UK government. A group of lawmakers against the delay wants to force a vote on the bill in question.

Peter Bottomley, a Conservative lawmaker who attended the meeting of the group of lawmakers against the delay, said that they’re trying to “keep the issue in play.” They want to include a clause in Chancellor Philip Hammond’s finance bill in the committee stage when lawmakers scrutinise the legislation in detail.

If the group succeeds, the vote would take place after November 12, when the bill is scheduled to get a second reading in the House of Commons. The clause calls for an inquiry and assessment of the consequences of bringing the new implementations forward to April 2019, Bottomley said, as Bloomberg reported.
