Two veteran directors to leave Flutter
Michael Cawley and Zillah Byng-Thorne are to leave Flutter’s board.
UK.- The gaming giant Flutter has announced that two long-standing directors are to leave its board. Michael Cawley will depart after Flutter’s annual general meeting on April 28, and Zillah Byng-Thorne will step down next year. Both have been members of the board since before the company became Flutter.
Since 2003, Cawley has been chief operating officer and deputy chief executive of Irish airline Ryanair, which he joined as chief financial officer in 1997. He joined the board of Paddy Power in 2013 and oversaw a series of mergers that led to the creation of what is now Flutter.
He will not seek re-election to Flutter’s board in April and will be replaced as head of Flutter’s audit committee by Holly Keller Koeppel, who has been a non-executive director since May 2021.
Byng-Thorne is chief executive of the publisher Future plc, which owns media titles such as Creative Bloq and Techradar. She joined Betfair’s board of directors before it merged with Paddy Power prior to the brand’s absorption into Flutter. She has announced that while she will seek re-election in April, she will not do so in 2023.
She is stepping down from her position as chair of Flutter’s risk and sustainability committee, where she’ll be replaced by Dave Lazzarato. She’ll remain on the committee until next year.
Flutter chairman Gary McCann said: “I wish to take this opportunity to thank Michael and Zillah for their exceptional contribution to the board over the past nine years.
“We wish Michael well for the future and I look forward to continuing to work with Zillah during her remaining term as a director.”
