Tropicana casino begins offering sports betting
The Atlantic City facility has officially opened its sports betting market on Thursday.
US.- Atlantic City’s Tropicana casino has debuted its sports book in the legalised sports betting market in New Jersey. The facility, which had been cleared by state regulators, started accepting bets on sports on Thursday at 11 am.
Last month, Tropicana achieved a deal with William Hill US to offer sports betting. The company also runs sports books at the Monmouth Park racetrack and Ocean Resort Casino. Tropicana also said it would offer sports betting in the North Tower casino and place kiosks throughout the property.
As Tropicana became the latest to offer sports betting services in Atlantic City, Hard Rock Atlantic City and Caesars are now the only casinos in the city to not offer sports betting. While the former has already expressed its desire to offer sports betting, it hasn’t gotten the approval to do so in the state, and Caesars is served by the sports book at Bally’s the adjacent casino property.
According to information from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), sports betting activity in the state nearly doubled in September, mainly because of the start of the NFL season. The figures show that sports betting activity reached the US$183.9 million mark in September – almost double August’s US$95.6 million. On-site sports bets placed at casinos increased to US$79 million, which is US$5.1 million more than August and represents a 7% increase. However, that number was overshadowed by internet bets, which stand at US$104.9 million, approximately US$80 million more than August’s US$21.7 million.
