Dem candidate wants to expand gambling in Texas

The Democratic candidate for governor in Texas wants to allow a gambling expansion in the state.

US.- Texas could soon evaluate a legislative proposal to expand its gaming industry in order to have further funds to invest in the local educational systems. This week the Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew White presented a project to expand gaming in Texas and halt “state border-security spending — both contentious issues in the past,” according to LMT.

“With schools that are ranked 40th in the nation, it’s time to declare an education emergency in Texas,” said White, a Houston entrepreneur and son of the late Texas Gov. Mark White who set education a priority during his administration three decades ago. “Gov. Abbott has failed us and our kids.”

The gaming project would aim at achieving the ambitious US$9 billion plan to improve Texas public schools. White also revealed that the funding resources based on legal gaming businesses “would also provide a US$2.5 billion in property tax cuts for local homeowners,” as stated by the proposal unveiled at a downtown Austin hotel this week.

“We have to invest in Texans and help them find their path to the education they dream of,” stated rival Lupe Valdez during her campaign for May 22 runoff election. “Our children are the best investment we can ever make, and I won’t let this next generation go without the education they rightfully deserve.”
