Swedish gambling regulator issues ban against WinBet
The regulator has banned the operator from providing gaming in Sweden.
Sweden.- The Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has banned WinBet NV from providing games in Sweden without a local licence. It said the operator was catering to Swedish players via the site owned Superb.Bet, which it found to be offering gaming in the Swedish language play and transactions in Krona.
Winbet was already targetted this year by the Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit in relation to four websites: Galaxyspins.com, Winnercasino1.bet, Superb1.bet and Doctorspins.com.
Spelinspektionen found that the operator held a Greek gambling licence but no licence to offer gambling to Swedish citizens. Swedish law considers an operator to be targeting Swedish players if its website includes text in Swedish or payment options only used in Sweden.
The regulator found that Superb.bet automatically used the Swedish language when it visited from an IP address in the country. No measures were found to be in place to stop Swedish players from registering. Spelinspektionen said that it gave WinBet an opportunity to respond but received no reply.
Meanwhile, Spelinspektionen has closed its compliance probe against three operators. It had announced an investigation early in june into whether Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) and Lotto Direct had complied with the Swedish Gambling Act of 2018 with regard to a provision that requires gambling licensees to inform the regulator of any changes to their applications or registrations. The regulator has confirmed that no issues were found that warrant further action.
