Swedish gambling market grows 3.2 pct in Q2

The Swedish gambling regulator has reported that the local market grew by 3.2% quarter-on-quarter.

Sweden.- The gambling regulator from Sweden, Spelinspektionen, has revealed that the local market grew 3.2% in the second quarter when compared to the previous one. Net turnover in the Swedish market totalled €598.3 million in the second quarter.

The information based on data from the Swedish Tax Agency on decided tax is preliminary, and Spelinspektionen said it will adjust the numbers in the near future. The regulator said that approximately 91% of all gambling activity in the Swedish market happened through licensed sites.

Of the overall revenue, nearly 56.7% was generated through online gaming. The modality grew from €313 million in the first quarter to €322 in the second quarter, ending June 30.

Svenska Spel’s numbers in the second quarter were not as positive as expected. Its lottery and land-based slot machines revenue fell from €132 million in the first quarter to €131 million in the second one. Casino Cosmopol, on the other hand, increased revenues by 4.7% to €22.8k.

At the end of the second quarter of 2019, almost 37,520 people were in the national self-suspension register via Spelpaus.se. By the end of August 2019, the number had increased to just over 39,000 people.
