Sports betting rises in Delaware
As American football season begins, Delaware casinos have seen an increase in sports wagering in the state.
US.- Both college football and the regular season of the NFL have begun and the sports betting segment seems to be gaining momentum in Delaware. The segment went live shortly after the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) struck the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) and is entering into its first American football season.
“We saw a lot of activity this past weekend,” Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk said and added: “Preseason, exhibition games which people bet on, for some crazy reason, but this was the first weekend we ever had some college games and they were very, very popular.”
Furthermore, Kirk explained that college football is going to be popular both at casinos and retail locations. “Retailers have an opportunity to do parlay cards on Saturdays and Sundays, and it seems to be popular so far,” he said.
Delaware has seen the sports betting segment grossing more than US$1.3 million in net proceeds ever since it was cleared to operate by the SCOTUS, a figure that’s expected to be left way behind as the American football season began. Even as it’s foreseen that full-scale betting will drive the segment forward, parlay betting on football remains available in the state and it’s expected to see profit as well.
