Spanish regulator launches prevention programme

The Spanish regulator is looking to set measures to prevent – and ultimately erradicate- the underaged from gambling at sports betting venues.

Spain.- Spanish regulator DGOJ met at the LaLiga headquarters to introduce a programme against underage gambling. That way, it launched “Con el deporte no se juega: los menores de edad y las apuestas deportivas” (We don’t play with sports: under-age gambling and sports betting). The Federal Police Force and the Central Citizen Unit pushed the initiative.

The presentation was attended by LaLiga president Javier Tebas and Isabel Gallego, chief of the Central Citizen Unit. Those responsible for the programme gave away educational material to be used by the authorities. The Central Citizen Unit will use it as part of what it already does at school centres. Such actions are part of a plan to improve lifestyle and safety within the education community.

The measure is included within the cooperation and colaboration framework of all three participating organisations. The plan extends to other elements of common interest, such as fighting against match fixing or those related to sports integrity. That way, the most vulnerable segments are protected, including potentian under-age gamblers.
