South Korea to become the next Asian gaming hub
Macau is losing the tourists’ interest and the industry aims to the neighbour country.
South Korea.- Casino industry in Asia is checking new places to develop the markets as Macau’s revenues have been in decline for two years in a row. South Korea is the current target of investors who want to boost gaming activity in the continent. Asia is a very limited place to provide casino services as the market has very restricted regulations.
South Korean government announced that the plans are to add at least 3 more casinos by 2020. Currently, there are 17 casinos countrywide and only one of them is available for local residents, whilst the rest is just for foreigners. That is the reason why it’s so important for the country to not only increase its casino industry, but its tourism industry as well. Further resorts will include facilities for Hallyu entertainment, biggest attraction among Asian visitors.
10 million of Chinese tourists are expected by 2020 in South Korea, based on Culture Ministry’s reports. Chinese travelers are majority in the Korean casinos. International tourist rate grew 8 percent last year and achieved 16.1 million of visitors, whilst Chinese tourist where 6.1 million, showing an increment of 42 percent in comparison to 2014. South Korea now plans to add integrated resorts, with wide-range of entertainment activities and restaurants, shopping and gaming centers. That is why it is not a surprise that Macau and Las Vegas operators have fixed their eyes on the country.
