South Carolina Senate committee approves online wagering on horse races
The bill would allow residents to place bets via mobile applications only when physically at racecourses.
US.- The South Carolina Senate Finance Committee has voted 12-6 in favour of a bill that proposes to legalise mobile wagering on live horse races. The bipartisan Equine Advancement Act, would allow residents to place bets via state-approved mobile applications only when physically at racecourses.
If the full Senate passes the bill, it would then have to go to the House.
Michael Johnson, sponsor of the bill, said the goal is to boost the state’s horse racing industry. “I think they’re in trouble and need our help. If we can give them this little extra boost to keep them going and get them back on the right track, we need to do so,” he’s quoted as saying.
