Sam’s Town Hotel and Gaming Hall closes in Mississippi
The Tunica casino opened in 1994.
US.- Sam’s Town Hotel and Gaming Hall in Tunica, Mississippi, has closed its doors after more than 30 years. The casino, which opened in 1994, shut on Sunday, November 9. Operator Boyd Gaming announced plans to close casino in September.
Boyd said the decision was a result of market conditions. The resort opened in 1994 as a Sam’s Town. It was the largest casino in Tunica. Renovations in 1996 included new convention facilities and 350 new hotel rooms expanding the total to 860. At the time of its closure, the casino employed up to 200 people.

Five gaming venues remain in Tunica: 1st Jackpot Casino, Fitz Tunica Casino & Hotel, Gold Strike, Hollywood Casino and Horseshoe Casino.
