Rush Street fined in New Jersey

The company has been fined US$30k by the local regulator for allowing underage online bets.

US.- New Jersey gambling regulators have fined Rush Street Interactive for allowing underage internet gambling. The playsugarhouse.com website was fined US$30k for allowing underage people to place bets for more than a year.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement from New Jersey said on Wednesday that it found failures in the website from November 2016 to January 2018 due to a software defect that did not accurately register patrons’ birthdates, but it has since been fixed.

Thirteen people between the ages of 18 and 20 were able to create accounts and place bets worth approximately US$5k. Gamblers in the state must be at least 21 in order to be able to place legal bets.

Rush Street Interactive New Jersey and the state agreed on the US$30k penalty. “We take this matter very seriously,” the company said in a statement issued Wednesday. “As soon as our team discovered the misconfiguration, we self-reported it to the gaming commission and took immediate action to correct and prevent recurrence. Responsible gaming is a top priority for us.”
