Rivers Casino contests commission finding

The Upstate New York facility has challenged the gaming commission’s finding that underage people entered its gaming floor.

US.- The New York Gaming Commission has found that underage people have accessed Rivers Casino & Resort’s gaming floor over the past year. While the casino hasn’t released an official statement, the commission said that it has the right to appeal any finding against it.

Commission spokesman Brad Maione said that they found at least four instances in which underage people conducted activities at the casino’s floor, and state law prohibits people under 21 years old from entering these facilities.

Current regulations in the state establish that four violations in a year result in a fine up to US$25,000 and that a casino has the right to appeal any findings against it and have a hearing. Lisa Johnson, Rivers Casino & Resort spokeswoman, said: “We cannot comment on matters pending before the New York State Gaming Commission.”

Maione said that there was a hearing before a state officer in late June and that it will continue on July 15th-26th at state Gaming Commission headquarters in Schenectady, which will be open to the public. After those hearings, the officer will make a recommendation that will go to the full Gaming Commission for acceptance, modification or rejection. “We take our role as regulators very seriously in ensuring underage patrons are not on the gambling floor,” Maione said.
