Rhode Island’s sports betting handle reached $62.3m, up 6.3 per cent from January 2022.

US.-  The Rhode Island sports betting handle hit a record $62.3m in January, a rise of 6.3 per cent compared to $58.6m in January 2022 and of 5.2 per cent higher compared to December 2022. The total surpassed the previous monthly record of $61.2m set in November 2022 by 1.8 per cent.

Online bets reached $37.5m, while retail spending was $24.8m. Twin River recorded $17.2m in bets and Tiverton Casino $7.7m.

Revenue totaled $5.2m, which was level with January 2022 but 16.1% lower than the $6.2m recorded in December 2022. Online betting generated $4m in revenue and retail revenue $1.2m, including $660,792 at Tiverton Casino and $504,427 from Twin River. Players won $57.2m.

For the state’s financial year-to-date, the handle for the seven months to the end of January was $332.9m. Revenue was $34.6m and player winnings $298.3m.

Rhode Island Twin River Casino expansion expected to finish in April

Bally’s Corporation has announced that it expects to open its expansion at the recently renamed Bally’s Twin River Lincoln Casino Resort by mid- to late April. The expansion will add 40,000 square feet to the gaming floor, which will be 25 per cent bigger after the expansion.

The $100m expansion that started in September 2021 also includes a new Asian-themed restaurant. Bally’s announced that its new spa has been open since last Tuesday.
