Responsible Online Gaming Association releases VIP guidelines

ROGA says effective programmes combine proactive education, personalised engagement and periodic evaluation.

US.- The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) has published guidelines for operator VIP programmes. The organisation said the recommended practices are intended to support members’ VIP policies to promote robust responsible online gaming.

ROGA said that the most effective VIP programmes combine proactive education, personalised engagement, and periodic evaluation. It recommends role-specific training for VIP hosts, automated review to detect potentially risky behaviour patterns and an escalation process, where operators implement measures to escalate to a responsible gaming specialist when they identify that a player might be exhibiting signs of problematic play. It also recommends integrating responsible gaming messaging into VIP communications.

ROGA executive director Jennifer Shatley said: “Like in many sectors of entertainment, leisure and hospitality, sportsbook’s VIP programs aim to reward and retain loyal players, and it is essential that these programs are operated with a strong commitment to responsible gaming. These programs should support a shared understanding between hosts and players on the value of responsible gaming that fosters long-term loyalty and player well-being.

“There is a robust conversation ongoing regarding VIP programs, which is why we have prioritized this issue, as it is essential to provide research-driven guidance to adequately support these programs to help keep VIP players’ experience fun and recreational.”

Earlier this year, ROGA launched the Know Your Play campaign with EPIC Global Solutions, Kindbridge Behavioral Health, and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC). The initiative was designed to provide college-aged students with detailed content focused on responsible gaming, mental health and well-being, and financial literacy.
