Presque Isle Downs wants to offer sports betting
As the segment continues to expand in the US, Presque Isle Downs and Casino has asked the Pennsylvania regulator to offer sports betting.
US.- Pennsylvania was one of the first states to legalise sports betting after PASPA was struck down by the Supreme Court of the US and more companies want to get a share of the business. That’s why Presque Isle Downs and Casino has asked the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) for a permit to offer sports wagering services.
Presque Isle Downs is the seventh casino to request a licence in the state, where five licences have already been approved. However, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in southcentral Pennsylvania is the only venue that has begun operating its sportsbook so far.
Should its petition gets accepted, Presque Isle Downs’ operation would take wagers both through the land-based venue and online. It is expected that the newest part of the casino would create an additional 42 jobs to its current business.
“Generally speaking, a casino and any partners in operating a sports book have to be approved by the board,” Doug Harbach, communications director for the state Gaming Control Board, said. He also explained that the PGCB has just received the petition, which is why “there is no timetable” for its completion.
