Poker rooms revenue up in Nevada
The few poker rooms that are still in business in Nevada reported a revenue increase in May.
US.- The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) revealed that poker rooms in the state collected US$8.9 million in May, even if the number if the number of tables decreased significantly year-over-year.
When compared to May 2016, when the biggest gambling state in the US featured approximately 30 more tables than this year, the revenue increased from US$11k to US$12k. With the Luxor casino shutting down its own poker room on June 18, the Las Vegas Strip poker room offer has decreased to a total of 18. Ever since the peak of the poker boom, the offer has drastically dropped and 22 poker rooms have closed in the last six years. This was the third closure in 2017 and comes right after the termination of the room at the Monte Carlo casino -also MGM property- last month.
The 18 poker rooms collected US$5.7 million, slightly up from May 2016, whilst the three poker rooms in Downtown Las Vegas totaled US$304k in May, 4.5 percent up year-over-year. Nevada casinos generated US$991.6 million. Table games contributed with US$344.4 million and slot machines with US$647.2 million. Meanwhile, casinos in Las Vegas Strip grew 3 percent year-over-year, to almost US$546.8 million.
