US.- PointsBet has announced the soft launch of its online sportsbook in Pennsylvania with plans to be fully operational in time for Sunday´s Super Bowl. The firm must first undergo a three-day soft launch period before starting full operations. It expects to be fully live in time for Super Bowl LVI on February 13.

PointsBet group chief executive and managing director, Sam Swanell, said: “PointsBet launching in our 10th US jurisdiction represents a very proud moment for our company, and I am especially grateful to our technology and compliance teams for their ongoing dedication and commitment.”

PointBet has launched in other states such as New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, and New York.

Through its partnership with Comcast-owned media group NBC sports, PointsBet will promote its presence in the state. The firm will include multi-platform media and marketing opportunities across NBC Sports Philadelphia, the regional broadcast home of Pennsylvania sports teams the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball, the Philadelphia 76ers from the NBA, and the Philadelphia Flyers from National Hockey league team.

Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks reach $6.5bn in wagers in 2021

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has revealed that online and retail gaming outlets reported $750m in sports betting revenue in December, while online casino revenue hit a record $127.6m. The state brought in $6.5bn in sports betting, $122.5m in sports betting taxes and about $1.3bn in online casino revenue for all of 2021.

Pennsylvania sportsbooks accepted $750.4m in wagers in the final month of 2021, a 37 per cent increase from a year earlier. However, December saw a 2 per cent drop in betting volume compared to November. Revenue was $38m, down 16 per cent year-on-year.
