PNG applies for sports betting licence in Pennsylvania

The gaming operator has become the first one to request a permit to take sports wagers in the state.

US.- The sports betting segment was legalised in several states after the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) struck the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) down and is already up and running in New Jersey and Mississippi. However, Pennsylvania is on track to follow its neighbour’s lead as Penn National Gaming (PNG) has already applied for a licence to offer sports betting, turning into the first company to do so.

The operator recently submitted a 107-page application to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) and is now expecting to get the regulator’s approval. However, a spokesman for the PGCB said it is unlikely that PNG will get cleared to take sports wagers before October.

While PNG is looking to become the first company to score a licence to offer sports betting in the state, as the segment continues to thrive in the country. As Nevada and Delaware already had the segment authorised even before the SCOTUS ruling, New Jersey became the first to jump in shortly after, followed by Mississippi. West Virginia is set to start on September 1st.
