The Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment has rejected a request from Parx Casino to move its Turf Club off-track-betting business to a local restaurant.

US.- The potential relocation of Parx Casino’s Turf Club off-track-betting business in South Philadelphia has been denied by the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Parx Casino’s application failed in a 4-1 vote against a special exception to let the business move to Chickie’s and Pete’s restaurant.

The potential move had seen strong opposition from residents, with protests held outside the restaurant and at the Packer Park Civic Association.

The city Planning Commission had recommended allowing the gambling business to move, but the Zoning Board rejected the request.

“We are very disappointed in the Zoning Board of Adjustment’s vote today on the application for 1526 Packer Avenue,” Parx’s lawyer Mark S. Stewart said. He said Parx might appeal but is waiting to read the full report.

“Their action was contrary to the City Planning Commission’s favorable recommendation and the strong record justifying the special exception. We will await the board’s written decision before making any decisions on next steps.”
