Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board fines BetMGM
The regulator says the operator failed to prevent fraudulent behaviour via BetMGM and Borgata.
US.- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has approved a $100,000 fine against BetMGM for failing to prevent fraudulent behaviour on the BetMGM and Borgata wagering platforms. It cited insufficient Know-Your-Customer (KYC) protocols and instances of allowing people to open accounts using others’ identities and stolen or fraudulently obtained payment devices.
The consent agreement identified four fraud rings. One operated for approximately 25 months until January 2024 with 1,567 accounts created and $229,580 of wagering. Another operated for approximately 34 months until November 2024 with 34 accounts created and over $14,598 of wagering.
A third operated for approximately 29 months until November 2023 with 119 accounts and $895,092 of wagering, and a fourth for 19 months until December 2023 with 304 accounts and $867,910 of wagering.
The board also placed 16 individuals on its various involuntary exclusion lists.
The PGCB recently launched a campaign to raise awareness of underage gambling problems. The “What’s Really at Stake” campaign will include social media posts, online advertising, a website and promotional materials.
