Ontario’s Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie reopens gaming tables
Six live gaming tables will return to the casino floor after they were removed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Canada.- Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario has reopened its live gaming tables after they were removed from the venue due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Six tables with dealers – three blackjack, one roulette, and two poker games – will be back on the casino floor.
The casino, which is owned and operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, will bring back employees to work on the gaming floor. The venue was closed several times during the pandemic as a result of provincial lockdowns. Reopening occurred with capacity limits.
Rob Mitchell, Gateway Casino’s director of communication and public affairs, said: “We’re in our last stage of our reopening now and that means returning the table games. We’re restoring the casino to what it had been prior to the pandemic. We had some minor reconfiguration that was required at that time with social and distancing protocols but this won’t cause any disruption.”
In January, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the province was moving back into a modified Step 2 of its reopening plan due to a rise in Covid-19 cases. Some weeks later, the government announced its plans to lift Covid-19 restrictions.
Casinos were permitted to reopen at 50 per cent capacity on January 31 while sports venues could raise their capacity to 50 per cent from February 21. The government removed all capacity limits by March.
