Online casino in Italy generates record €162.85m in January
The Italian online casino market continues to grow, up 6 per cent month-on-month and 99 per cent year-on-year.
Italy.- Monthly revenue from online slots and casinos reached a record €162.85m in Italy in January, an increase of 6 per cent compared to December 2020 and 99 per cent compared to January 2020.
PokerStars continues to lead the market with revenue of almost €18m, accounting for 11 per cent of the market.
Total online GGR for Italian-licensed operators reached €335.9m, a little behind the total for December 2020, which remains the record month for online gambling as a whole.
Italian sports betting and online poker remain strong
Despite protests from the Italian gaming sector, retail betting shops remain closed under Italy’s Covid-19 countermeasures.
Against that backdrop, online sports betting generated €143.6m in January, the second-highest monthly total yet.
Bet365 saw something of a rebound after losing market share through the end of 2020 as more land-based betting operators moved online.
It saw its market share increase by two percentage points to 12.2 per cent, putting it in third position after Sisal (12.8 per cent) and Snai (12.4 per cent).
Revenue from online poker continued to grow, with tournament revenues up 6 per cent month-on-month to €12.96m and cash game revenues up 6.5 per cent to €8.84m.
PokerStars took 52.9 per cent of tournament revenue and 43.5 per cent of ring game revenue.
