Ohio lawmakers propose sports betting restrictions

The Save Ohio Sports Act would create new consumer protections.

US.- A group of state lawmakers in Ohio has introduced the Save Ohio Sports Act. The bill proposes limits on sports bets and would eliminate mobile betting.

State Representatives Gary Click, Riordan McClain, and Johnathan Newman introduced the bill, which would introduce limits on wager amounts and bet frequency and would ban prop bets, in-game wagers and parlays. Wagers would not be allowed on college sports, and gambling ads would be banned in arenas and during broadcasts.

Players would be restricted to $100 per wager and would only be allowed to place only eight wagers in a 24-hour period. They would only be able to bet in person at an authorised casino.

In August 2025, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine urged the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) to remove prop bets from the list of legal bets that the state’s licensed sportsbooks are authorised to offer. The proposal came after Major League Baseball (MLB) placed two Cleveland Guardians pitchers on leave while conducting an investigation.
