NY casino: over $3bn provided to education since 2011
Resorts World Casino more to the education fund in the last fiscal year than any other gaming property in the state.
US.- Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York, has provided over $3bn to the state’s lottery education fund since it first opened back in 2011.
In the nine years the casino has been operating, it has provided the state with funds to pay for 12 million laptops or 37,500 public school teacher salaries for a year, state regulators said.
Out of the $3.38bn set aside by the New York Lottery for education over the past fiscal year, the casino provided $348m, more than of any other gaming operator in the state.
The property, which is located in Ozone Park, is operated by Genting Americas East.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering, Senator Joseph Addabbo, said: “The $3bn Resorts World NYC has generated for New York’s Lottery education fund has been used to improve the lives of countless students and teachers across the state.
“I am extremely proud to have Resorts World NYC in my district — and hometown — and I look forward to continuing to partner with them going forward.”
In Nevada, a teachers union recently asked the state to raise the gaming tax and sales tax in order to provide more funds for education.
