Norfolk City Council approves lease for casino construction

The general manager of the interim casino, Ron Bailey, said that it is expected to open in November.

US.- Norfolk City Council in Virginia has approved a lease for Boyd Gaming’s casino project. The lease allows Boyd to use portions of land for parking and to lay down construction materials.

Ron Bailey, general manager of the casino, said a temporary gaming hall is ahead of schedule and on track to open by November 15. It will feature 130 slot machines. “There’s a lot of work happening. A lot of concrete piles are going into the ground already. We have hundreds and hundreds of those, getting the foundation together. It’s well underway,” he said.

Boyd Gaming, operating through Golden Eagle Consulting II, partnered with the Pamunkey Tribe to develop the casino near Harbor Park. The permanent venue is expected to open in 2027 and will feature 1,500 slot machines, 50 table games, a 200-room hotel and eight food and beverage outlets.
