NJ lawmaker wants to block new keno game
A bill has been submitted in New Jersey by a lawmaker that wants to stop a new keno game.
US.- Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo, D-Atlantic, introduced a legislation that wants to stop a new keno game from being offered by the New Jersey Lottery Commission, as he believes that it expands casino gaming.
The state lottery revealed last month that Quick Draw, the keno-style game, is set to be offered in more than 400 locations across New Jersey. “The State Lottery is grossly overstepping their authority by essentially expanding casino style gambling to bars and restaurants outside of Atlantic City. Having keno drawings every 5 minutes is a clear end around the spirit of the 1970 State Lottery constitutional amendment,” said Mazzeo, as Lottery Post reported. The game was approved by the local gaming commission to be played in bars, bowling alleys and restaurants, among other places.
Spokeswomen for the Lottery Commission, Judith L. Drucker, didn’t comment on Mazzeo’s measure. “The residents of the state of New Jersey overwhelmingly opposed the expansion of casino gaming. The state lottery doesn’t get to override the voice of the people. I will continue to staunchly oppose, as I always have, any effort that expands gambling outside of Atlantic City,” said Mazzeo.
