New Jersey breaks its sports betting record
New Jersey registered a record US$445 million on sports betting in September, achieving the largest total since its launch in June 2018.
US.- The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) released on Wednesday the revenue figures from September operations, a month in which the state registered its highest monthly total in sports betting revenue and achieved a new record.
Gamblers bet a total US$445 million on sports in September, which is the highest number since New Jersey launched its industry in June 2018. With these results, New Jersey continues to push for the fight as the nationwide sports betting leader. The highest monthly total is still in Nevada’s favour, as the state registered US$600 million back in March, the largest result in US’ history.
New Jersey racetracks and casinos generated US$38 million in September after winning and expenses were paid. These results were the product of the start of the new NFL season, which began in the first week of the month.
The sports betting performance helped casinos’ total revenue register good results, despite table games and slots declining 3.2% to US$224.5 million. With sports betting and online gambling in the mix, the total revenue rose 4.1% to US$283.2 million.
Online betting generated US$41.1 million in revenue for the casinos during last month’s operations. This represents a 60% rise over the same period last year, the DGE said.
“While operators continue to face strong competition for gaming and leisure customers, the increase in total gaming revenue shows the industry has grown for the betterment of both Atlantic City and New Jersey as a whole,” said James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.
