New Hampshire wagers on March Madness increase year-over-year
Players bet more than $20m on the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball events.
US.- New Hampshire Lottery players wagered more than $20m on the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments. Wagers between the two events increasing by more than 10 per cent year-over-year.
March Madness concluded with Florida winning the men’s championship and UConn the women’s title. The New Hampshire Lottery reported that players initially favoured Duke as men’s champions with one-third of pre-tournament bets placed on the Blue Devils, while 5 per cent wagered on Florida. For the championship game against Houston, two-thirds of bets were placed on Florida to win. UConn picked up two-thirds of wagers on the women’s tournament.
Charlie McIntyre, executive director of New Hampshire Lottery, said: “What an incredible month of college hoops! We love seeing our players getting in on the sports betting action! Sports betting just adds a little extra excitement to the sports viewing experience, especially during March Madness when there are dozens of games throughout the month, not to mention an expanding variety of ways to bet.
“March Madness is our largest sustained sports betting driver, providing a full month of betting activity that plays a major role in supporting our mission of driving maximum revenue to New Hampshire public education. Luckily for us, the fun never stops, next up are the NHL and NBA Playoffs!”
Sports betting handle increases year-over-year in February
New Hampshire’s sports betting handle was $63.3m in February, up 1.6 per cent year-over-year but down 19.8 per cent from January. The figure was the lowest since August 2024 ($49.3m).
The mobile handle was $58.8m, down 18 per cent from January, while retail accounted for $4.3m, down 39 per cent. According to the New Hampshire Lottery, combined gross gaming revenue (GGR) was $8m, down 28 per cent from January. Mobile sports betting generated $7.6m and retail $407,502.
