New donation underscores ongoing commitment to safer gambling experiences

Coolbet has renewed its support for BetBlocker, a responsible gaming charity that provides free tools to help people control their gambling. This marks the second time Coolbet has contributed to the organization’s work.

Its earlier donation, made two years ago, helped BetBlocker launch a Spanish version of its app and website. This opened access for users across Latin America and other Spanish-speaking regions. Their latest contribution shows that Coolbet is still committed to keeping these tools free and accessible for people with gambling problems.

Fjodor Rauten, Responsible Gaming Manager at Coolbet, said that responsible play sits at the center of the company’s work. He said that tools like BetBlocker should stay free for anyone who needs help managing their gambling. He also added that the renewed support keeps these tools within reach for players in many regions.

BetBlocker gives users free software that blocks access to gambling sites and apps for a time they choose.

The Scheduler tool lets people set blocks during moments when they feel more at risk, such as weekends, holidays, or paydays. Coolbet’s new donation helps BetBlocker add more languages, reach more users, and improve its technology. The support aligns with Coolbet’s core message: Stay Cool. Bet Responsibly.

The contribution by Coolbet to BetBlocker reaffirms the player safety-first approach of resources like Casino Guru, where free tools like the Global Self-Exclusion Initiative and honest reviews help folks spot safe sites, set limits, and play responsibly and in moderation.

What BetBlocker had to say

BetBlocker’s founder and managing trustee, Duncan Garvie, said the project passed a quarter of a million active users this year.

He said that the team spent 2024 improving its data so supporters could see clear and accurate performance figures, while adding that they focus on “active users” rather than download counts, as the latter is a larger but less useful metric. By active users, he meant “users with an active BetBlocker restriction in 2025.”

Garvie also mentioned that the pace of growth this year exceeded their expectations. He described the rise as a strong signal that so many people need free and anonymous tools to manage gambling harm. He added that the global spread of new users indicates how far-reaching the need for support has become in an online environment where access is constant.

He went on to note that this level of global use wouldn’t be possible without help from operators that take player protection seriously, and he pointed to Coolbet as one of those. He finished by tipping his hat to the betting platform, saying that its continued support keeps important tools available to people who rely on them.

About Betblocker

BetBlocker is a free and anonymous app made available through a registered UK-based charity of the same name. The application helps people manage access to online gambling sites and apps. You get to choose how long you want the block to last, which could be from a few hours to several years. Once it is enabled, the restriction stays in place for the full period you selected.

The service is free, does not ask for personal details, and gives users a private way to protect themselves. The user base has grown at a sharp rate this year. Engagement has come from many regions, with the highest use recorded in Brazil, the UK, the US, Romania, Canada, Kenya, and South Africa.

How the application works

The app blocks access to over 90,000 gambling websites and tens of thousands of gambling apps. No registration or personal information is required, and users can remain completely anonymous. Users can set a Gambling Self‑Restriction to prevent access until the chosen timeframe ends. The app uses a regularly updated database of gambling URLs to enforce these blocks.

There is an option for calendaring, which is a special feature that enables you to decide exactly when the block applies. You will be able to schedule restrictions for whenever you feel most vulnerable, whether on the weekends, after paydays, or on certain evenings.

BetBlocker also includes parental controls. Parents can block gambling sites, as well as other adult content, and set restriction periods when children use the device. Restrictions cannot be lifted before the chosen end date. The service is purposefully designed to prevent early removal to ensure effective support for those users who need assistance managing access.

Are self-exclusion methods enough to prevent vulnerable players from gambling?

On their own, no. While self-exclusion options can be a very useful tool that stops people experiencing gambling problems from playing, independent parties like Casino Guru think that players can still find ways to avoid them by playing on illegal sites that lack such options. That is why Casino Guru launched a Global Self-Exclusion System (GSES) that allows players to stop access to all online gambling operators worldwide. They envision a future where players can exclude themselves from all online gambling platforms at once.

Under the new GSES, there would be new player protection standards, easy access to problem gambling organizations, and an independent body to govern and oversee the global self-exclusion system. They argue that true protection only works when the whole ecosystem works together as one.
