New coalition in Connecticut against casino
Opponents of a third casino in the state created an organisation.
US.- Coalition Against Casino Expansion in Connecticut, a new organisation formed by people who are against a third casino in the state, held a conference where they announced that they’re getting organised to fight against the possible gaming venue.
MMCT Venture, conformed by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, confirmed in October 2016 that it has received proposals from five different Connecticut municipalities to host the new casino. Together, they’re planning the third casino in the north of the state, and they’re already evaluating the latest submissions. Both tribes are trying to build a casino in East Windsor or Windsor Locks. MMCT wants to build a US$250 million casino near the border with Massachusetts to compete with the US$950 million MGM Resorts international project that is set to open in the summer of 2018. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino near Ledyard, whilst the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority is responsible for the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville.
“The Coalition is especially concerned that while the proposed convenience casino would keep some Connecticut gamblers from going to the MGM casino being built in Springfield, it would expand casino gambling in Connecticut by making it more readily available to hundreds of thousands of state residents, thereby encouraging more people to gamble and adding to the state’s economic and social problems,” the coalition said.
