Nevada governor approves eSports bill
Governor of Nevada Brian Sandoval signed a bill that is set to legalise eSports betting in the state.
US.- Brian Sandoval, governor of Nevada, signed into law a bill that legalised eSports betting in events. Senate Bill 240 extends the current law by including “other events” under the permitted betting modalities.
The bill that is set to take effect on July 1 will allow the state to bet on almost everything, with the exception of politics. Moreover, as confirmed during the meeting, the bill was unanimously passed by the Senate and the Nevada Assembly, so the governor’s signature was totally expected. The law establishes that the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) is able to issue licenses and also adopt or modify regulations related to these modalities. Moreover, the regulators can appoint a 11 person Off-Track Pari-Mutuel Wagering Committee with the responsibility to engage in off-track pari-mutuel.
The NGC is also required to ask fingerprints from licensees and background information. “The Nevada Gaming Commission shall, and it is granted the power to, demand access to and inspect all books and records of any person licensed pursuant to this chapter pertaining to and affecting the subject of the license,” says the bill.
Last year, as reported by casino.org, Sandoval said that there was a lot for him to learn about video games, and that he wanted to be receptive to a new generation of gamers.
