Mohegan reveals its Hellinikon casino partner
Mohegan is bidding for the Hellinikon casino licence and revealed that construction firm GEK Terna is its local partner for the development.
Greece.- Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment revealed its local partner for the Hellinikon casino development. The US operator has joined construction firm GEK Terna to push for the gaming licence at Greece’s €8 billion project.
The partnership is the first publicly known in the race for the Hellinikon casino licence. However, several international companies may soon reveal their partnerships. Such include Hard Rock International, Genting and Caesars Entertainment.
GEK Terna’s “reliability, effectiveness and deep knowledge of the Greek market will help us fulfil our vision for the Hellinikon area,” MGE CEO Mario Kontomerkos said.
Bidding process delays
The Greek gaming regulator delayed the Hellinikon casino project bidding process for June 28, but may delay it again. As the general election will take place on July 7, the regulator will probably kick back the process.
Investors are expecting three joint ministerial decisions, that won’t be ready before the current deadline. According to experts, only one out of three agencies may be ready, as officials are “dragging their feet.”
That way, despite the current government’s efforts to get the process ready, it won’t be enough. Decisions regarding the Hellinikon casino project will, most likely, fall under the upcoming authorities.
The most recent delay
The Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) announced late in May that it has decided to postpone once again the deadline for potential suitors to submit a bid for a licence to operate a casino resort in Hellenikon.
