Hellinikon casino project faces new delays
As the general election in Greece will take place on July 7, days after the offer filing deadline, the Hellinikon casino project may take a while longer.
Greece.- The Greek gaming regulator delayed the Hellinikon casino project bidding process for June 28, but may delay it again. As the general election will take place on July 7, the regulator will probably kick back the process.
Investors are expecting for three joint ministerial decisions, that won’t be ready before the current deadline. According to experts, only one out of three agencies may be ready, as officials are “dragging their feet.”
That way, despite the current government’s efforts to get the process ready, it won’t be enough. Decisions regarding the Hellinikon casino project will, most likely, fall under the upcoming authorities.
The most recent delay
The Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) announced late in May that it has decided to postpone once again the deadline for potential suitors to submit a bid for a license to operate a casino resort in Hellenikon.
The original date for the Hellinikon casino bid was April 22. However, it was later moved to May 31 due to issues pertaining to zoning. Companies interested in building and operating a casino with a luxury hotel, conference and recreation facilities on an old disused airport in Hellenikon will have time until June 28 to submit their bids.
