Mississippi sports betting handle drops again in May
Mississippi’s sports betting handle was down 8.2 per cent from May 2022.
US.- Mississippi’s sports betting handle was $26.8m in May. That’s an 8.2 per cent decrease from $29.2m in May 2022 and down 31.8 per cent compared with $31.8m in April of this year. Revenue reached $3.2m, up 52.4 per cent from $2.1m in the same month last year but 25.6 per cent lower than April 2022 ($4.3m).
Coastal casinos reported revenue of $1.3m off $16.8m in bets, while revenue at central casino venues amounted to $1.2m from a $7.3m handle. Northern casinos generated $623,433 off $2.8m in bets. Basketball was again the most popular sport among Mississippi bettors, with $10.2m in bets. Some $6.3m of this was wagered at coastal casinos.
Choctaw breaks ground on new casino in Louisville, Mississippi
Choctaw Resort Development Enterprise has broken ground on a new $25m travel plaza to be located on South Church Street in Louisville, Mississippi. The target opening is the Summer of 2024.
The 18,000-square-foot facility will have 150 slot machines, a sportsbook lounge, 3,000 square feet of retail space, a restaurant and fueling stations for commercial and passenger vehicles.
