Mississippi considers casino projects

The state gaming commission is analysing a gaming site approval.

US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission announced that they agreed to take into consideration gaming site approval requests. The proposals will be received in February from Jacobs Entertainment Diamondhead and RW Development.

According to WLOX, both of these projects suffered rejections in the past. Michael Cavanaugh, an attorney from RW Development, said that back in 2008 the project was rejected because they didn’t have control on the lands to the water’s edge. He believes that the high water line and the shoreline are not the same: “There is significant legal precedent.” Cavanaugh is confident that although the project is pretty much the same, the commissioners aren’t and that there’s a chance that they will have a positive outcome.

“I’m pretty certain in my mind of where it is and it’s pretty evident where prior commissioners thought it was. I would say it’s where the water meets the sand,” said Allen Godfrey, Gaming Commission Chairman. The Mayor Tommy Schafer, said that the need the approval before taking further steps. Without it, the Diamondhead City Council should not even consider a project. “The city of Diamondhead should enjoy the same economic opportunities as other cities that have chosen to provide space for casinos,” he added.
