Mississippi casino revenue decreases year-over-year in March
Revenue in the state totalled $226.2m in the third month of the year.
US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC) has reported that casinos in the state generated $226.2m in revenue in March. That’s down 3.7 per cent from March 2024 but 19 per cent ahead of February. Most revenue was generated by slot machines ($189m). Table games generated $32.3m.
The regulator breaks revenue down across three regions: Central, Coastal, and Northern. Coastal casinos generated the highest gaming revenue of the month with $144.5m, down 2.9 per cent from the same month in 2024. In the Northern region, revenue was $50.7m, a 5.5 per cent decline year-over-year. The Central region generated $30.9m, down 4.5 per cent.
As for retail sports betting, the MGC reported a handle of $34.4m, down 11.3 per cent compared to March 2024. In the Coastal Region, players wagered $21.9m, including $12.6m on basketball. Players in the Central Region bet $7.6m. Basketball accounted for $3.6m and parlay cards $3.8m. In the Northern Region, players bet $4.8m. Retail sports betting generated close to $1.9m in taxable revenue.
In February, a bill that would raise the tax rate on casinos in Mississippi died on calendar. HB 1881 would have increased casino tax from 12 to 16 per cent.
