Millions of UK players ban themselves

UK gaming operators are receiving millions of self-exclusion petitions from local players.

UK.- Over 1.3 million gambling accounts have been voluntarily banned per year in the United Kingdom due to gaming problems, according to British analysis. In the last 18 months, over one million self-exclusion petitions were submitted by UK online players, doubling the amount registered in the previous year.

PlymouthLive informed this week that there were 1,309,740 self-exclusions on UK online betting accounts between October 2016 and September 2017, as the latest industry figures from the Gambling Commission have revealed. Meanwhile, there were 612,427 self-exclusions in place between April 2015 and March 2016.

Marc Etches, CEO of GambleAware said: “These new figures from the Gambling Commission show how more people are choosing to gamble online, where there are no limits to stakes and prizes and the use of credit cards is permitted.”

“This makes it especially important people are also aware of the risks associated with gambling and so it’s important people know where to find the free help and support available via BeGambleAware.org.”
