Two Maverick casinos in Nevada look set to close
A new owner or operator could still step in and prevent or delay the shutdowns, but no timetable has been given.
U.S.- Two Maverick casino properties in Elko, Nevada, look set to close on November 30, 2026, potentially affecting around 239 employees. That’s according to WARN notices filed with the state. The planned closures involve Maverick Casino Hotel – Elko and Gold Country Inn and Casino.
The closure of Maverick Casino Hotel – Elko would affect 198 employees while that of Gold Country Inn and Casino, located on Idaho Street, would affect 41.The notices were sent to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s Rapid Response team and signed by Maverick NV LLC human resources director Leticia Flores.
The company said both shutdowns are intended to be permanent and provided information on the affected positions and separation schedules. However, Maverick’s situation is in flux. Maverick NV LLC is currently involved in bankruptcy proceedings. A new owner or operator could take control of either property, potentially preventing the shutdowns.
Maverick Gaming owner Eric Persson has said that he intends to acquire eight Washington casinos that had also been the subject of WARN notices with November 30 as the closure date.
The casinos named so far as subject to the potential acquisition are Great American Casino in Everett; Chip’s Casino, Macau Casino and Palace Casino in Lakewood; All Star Casino in Silverdale; Casino Caribbean in Yakima; Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco; and Coyote Bobs Casino in Kennewick.
Persson said the employee terminations listed in those notices were related to the transfer between companies rather than permanent casino closures
