Mattias Wedar named new CEO at pivotal moment for LeoVegas
LeoVegas co-founder Gustaf Hagman is stepping down after 14 years at helm of the igaming operator.
Sweden.- MGM’s LeoVegas Group has announced that Mattias Wedar, formerly deputy CEO, has taken the helm as LeoVegas CEO with immediate effect. He replaces LeoVegas co-founder Gustaf Hagman, who had held the role for 14 years.
Hagman founded the Swedish online casino company with Robin Ramm-Ericson in 2011. He oversaw the company’s growth through the regulation of online gambling in Sweden in 2019, subsequent expansion to other European markets and the sale of the operator to the US casino giant MGM Resorts in 2022.
More recently, the operator entered the German market and bought the game studio Push Gaming in 2023 and then acquired Tipico in the US in 2024. In April, LeoVegas opened a second UK office in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
“When we launched in Sweden in 2012, the industry was in its infancy, and we were sailing in uncharted waters,” Hagman wrote on LinkedIn. “With a strong team, great commitment, and a fantastic corporate culture, we navigated the course successfully and managed to become one of the leading international players – it is truly impressive.
“Now, as part of the MGM family, LeoVegas Group is now stronger than ever, and it is the right strategic moment to pass the baton to Mattias Wedar.”

As well as serving as deputy CEO of LeoVegas, Wedar had been working as the operator’s chief product and technology officer (CPTO) since June 2019. He was previously CEO of the iGaming software developer Gametek between 2017 and 2019.
He said: “During the six years I have been part of what we call Team Leo, I have been consistently impressed by our innovation, pioneering spirit, and strong corporate culture. The success story that Gustaf and Robin began 14 years ago is stronger than ever, and we see many exciting opportunities on the horizon. I am honored to have been entrusted with the challenge of taking on the role of CEO in LeoVegas Group’s new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to lead us towards new milestones.”
