Maryland sports betting handle remains flat in December

US.- The Maryland Lottery and Gaming has reported that the sports betting handle was $636.3m in December. That’s a decrease of 0.2 per cent in year-on-year terms and 11.7 per cent sequentially.

Of the total handle, $626m was bet online, while retail locations accounted for $10.2m. Winnings totalled $555.7m, with sportsbook operators holding 12.7 per cent of the handle.

The market generated $15.7m in contributions to the state. The combined retail and mobile contribution to the Blueprint Fund was $1.8m, while an additional $3.9m in mobile proceeds was directed to the General Fund.

Through the first six months of fiscal year 2026 (July 2025 through December 2025), sports wagering contributions to the state totalled $78.6m, compared to $46.6m during the same period the previous year.

Retail sports wagering operators contribute 15 per cent of their taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund, which supports public education programmes. Online operators contribute 15 per cent to the Blueprint Fund and 5 per cent to the state’s General Fund.

Regarding the market landscape, the Canton Gaming retail sportsbooks in Canton and Pikesville ceased operations on December 14. As of the end of the month, Maryland had 11 retail sportsbook locations and 12 mobile sportsbooks in operation.

Maryland’s six casinos generated $159.7m in revenue from slot machines and table games in December. That’s a decrease of 2.6 per cent year-over-year and almost flat month-on-month.
