Maryland favours sports betting
A recent poll showed that a majority of the Maryland population would be on board of the segment’s legalisation.
US.- The sports betting segment is being legalised in several states after the Supreme Court cleared the way for it. Maryland, which would be one of them, had a recent referendum, and 53% of the voters showed their support for the segment’s legalisation in the state.
The Washington Post-University of Maryland poll showed that a slight majority would like to see sports betting go live and adding up to the lottery, as well as horse racing betting, which has been legal in Maryland for a while. With 53% in favour of the segment, the remaining 47% was divided into those against it (37%) and those who did not take part (10%).
Even as voters are supportive of the idea of legalising the segment, such measure wouldn’t be taken before November 2020 as a Maryland bill calling for a referendum on it still needs to be approved by the Senate. The delay has the potential referendum happening no sooner than 2020.
Not only did the poll show the state’s voters’ support for sports betting, but also an agreement between opposing parties, as Democrats, Republicans and independents all expressed support for legalised sports wagering.
