Maryland casino revenue decreases year-over-year in March
Revenue was down 3.4 per cent from the same month in 2024.
US.- Maryland’s six casinos generated $172.1m in gaming revenue in March, down 3.4 per cent compared to March 2024 but up 10 per cent compared to February ($155.2m).
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission reported that MGM National Harbor with $70.4m in revenue. It was followed by Live! Casino & Hotel, with revenue of $63.8m. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore generated $17.2m, Hollywood Casino Perryville $8.2m, Ocean Downs Casino $7.9m and Rocky Gap Casino $4.5m.
Rocky Gap Casino saw the most significant decrease compared to March 2024, down 9.8 per cent year-on-year, while Ocean Downs Casino was the only venue to report an increase. Casino gaming contributions to the state totalled $74.5m, a decrease of 2.5 per cent compared to March 2024. Contributions to the Education Trust Fund were $53.7m, a decline of 0.5 per cent.
In March, the Maryland House Ways and Means Committee amended governor Wes Moore’s proposed sports betting tax increase, proposing a rate of 20 per cent instead of 30 per cent. Legislators voted 13-5 on the measure while rejecting a proposed increase in casino table game taxes from 20 to 25 per cent in a separate vote. A 20 per cent rate would represent a middle ground between the current 15 per cent rate and the 30 per cent rate proposed in Moore’s budget plan.
