Man accused of stealing from casino VIPs using fake ID

A man has been charged for allegedly stealing £100,000 using the identities of VIP gamblers at a Detroit casino.

US.- A man has been charged for stealing almost $100,000 from MGM Grand Detroit by using fake identification documents to pose as VIP gamblers. According to the FBI, the man used a prosphetic face mask to hide his own idenitity when visiting the casino several times in April and May 2019.

John Christopher Colletti, 55, allegedly purchased the identities of VIP players online and created forged driver’s licences, which he would then use to obtain cash advances from kiosks inside the casino. He wore disguises including a prosphetic mask, hats and glasses to hide his own identity from CCTV cameras in the casino.

FBI Special Agent Julia MacBeth told press that Colletti stole $98,840 by defrauding at least ten VIP gamblers at the MGM Grand Detroit last April and May. He would go around different kiosks in the casino inserting forged driver’s licences.

She said: “Colletti would look at a piece of paper, likely containing the victims last four digits of the patron’s Social Security Number and the last four digits of the patron’s telephone number, which were needed to complete the transactions”.

Mr Colletti was arrested by Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal Police at the Prairie Band Casino and Resort in Mayetta, Kansas, and has been charged while he waits to be taken back it Michigan to face a 17-page criminal complaint a federal court in Detroit.
