The Joint Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs has voted to advance LD 2007.
US.- The Maine Joint Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs has in favour Legislative Document 2007 (LD2007), a bill that would ban online sweepstakes casinos. The “Act Regarding the Prohibition of Online Sweepstakes Games,” was introduced in December and passed on a 8-2 vote with three absentees
The bill was submitted by the Department of Public Safety via sponsor Sen. Craig Hickman. It defines sweepstakes as an internet-based game or promotion that uses a dual-currency system and produces casino-style outcomes. Violations would carry penalties ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, which would go to the state’s gaming regulator for proceeds to be directed to the Gambling Addiction Prevention and Treatment Fund. This would apply to both operators and promoters.
