Macau needs more time to decide on a tax hike
The gaming regulator said that they’re still collecting information.
Macau.- Paulo Martins Chan, Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau director, said that they still need more time before the regulation body can decide what to do with a proposed tax hike for gaming operators in Macau.
“We don’t have such a plan at the moment, yet we’re open to advice conducive to the gaming industry. We’ll look into every possible aspect, and there’s still time until the license renewal for us to listen to the society,” commented Chan, who admitted that they’re gathering information but they’re still at the initial stage of the process. The casino licenses expire sometime between 2020 and 2022.
Director of the University of Macau’s Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming Davis Fong, said that what matters more is whether or not the legal framework that governs the industry will sustain in a mature manner. “I think this is the most important of all. It requires a holistic approach,” he added.
