Senators in Louisiana back sports betting bill

Sen. Cameron Henry put his Bill for legal sports betting to Senators yesterday, who voted 29-8 in favour of the proposal.

US.- Sports betting is one step closer to becoming legal in Louisiana after lawmakers backed a proposal to regulate the activity in the state.

Sen. Cameron Henry put his Bill for legal sports betting to Senators yesterday, who voted 29-8 in favour of the proposal.

The Bill calls for the question of whether to legalise sports betting to appear on the Nov. 3 ballot where residents will vote parish-by-parish.

Last week, legislators in the state fast-tracked the Bill to the Senate with little objection.

The Bill will now go to the House for debate. If it clears the House, it will then appear on the November ballot.

Efforts to legalise sports betting in Louisiana in the past have fallen short, but following the casino closure due to Covid-19 there is growing optimism legislation will be passed into law this year.
