Louisiana issues two more sports betting licences
Two Bossier City casinos, Margaritaville and Boomtown, will be able to open their sportsbooks.
US.- The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has approved two more sports betting licences taking the state’s total to nine. The latest casinos to receive their licenses are Margaritaville and Boomtown, in Bossier City.
Louisiana Gaming Control Board chairman Ronnie Johns said the licenses would come into effect today (Friday November 12). Johns said he believes Margaritaville plans to open its sportsbook today and Boomtown on Monday.
Five more licenses are pending State Police and Gaming Control Board approval, and Johns said he expects more applications before the end of the year.
Harrah’s New Orleans, L’Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge, Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City and Boomtown Casino in Harvey, Golden Nugget and L’Auberge Casino in Lake Charles have all received approval to offer sports betting.
A ninth Louisiana sportsbook is located at the Paragon Casino in Marksville, but the Paragon is operated by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana. It was the first casino in the state to start legal sports betting.
In November of 2020, 55 Louisiana parishes approved sports betting, but Hurricane Ida delayed the processing of applications from casinos. Johns said it will likely be early 2022 before casinos begin offering mobile online betting options.
